Shopping Trip

I dumped my work stuff in my house and rushed out. I walked steadily towards the venue, my hair escaping from the bun. I rushed through smoke and dust; my platform slippers flipped wet mud droplets on my legs. I did not bother. I was late already. A weekend had just got over. Here I was, waking up on a Tuesday to start the mission.

Still, I was confident I will pull it off. I am an old player in this game, after all.

I reached, panting and sweaty, all the perfume mostly faded (whatever strain I may be in, time / money, looking and dressing good can never be compromised on. I feel). I ran up the stairs, entered the sliding doors and sighed noisily. I smiled at the mannequins, startling the poor guard. I devoured the smells of the place. I’m here, finally, I thought.

Shopping! The mall! Nothing makes me happier.

I went on a clothes-picking frenzy pushing little girls and fat ladies aside in the process. I have a mission to accomplish; I glared at them haughtily. So what if I have enough clothes to clothe half of the city, I still deserve better things in life. After all the anguish and suffering I go through being a single working girl, don’t I deserve some, at least little reward? I picked that shirt with the cute colour and I also picked that top with the jazzy buttons. So what if I didn’t like the shirt’s cloth or the top’s colour. You can’t get everything, you know.

Shopping being such a wonderful therapy that cures so many problems faced by ladies log, I hate when it causes pain. The pain of having to choose just one pair of jeans. Or just one scarf, and keep back all those trendy pieces you picked up. So I just pick them all. What if I find someone else wearing a similar piece some day? How will I console my poor heart? How will I compensate my deprived heart?

I beat girls to trial rooms. I studied the pieces on shelves and hoarded them on my arm like they were groceries till my arm felt senseless. I rummaged through racks, much to the salesgirl’s distress and picked out every item of my size (and a size lower and higher) and dragged them into the tiny trial room.

‘Size S in this? And longer shorts like these?’ I rattled off queries enthusiastically to the salesgirl.

‘No’, the grumpy salesgirl replied coldly and scuttled away.

How mean!

‘Hmph’ I frowned. ‘Poor thing. Must be really frustrated about something. Pity.’

My shopaholic aura must have been spotted by the salesgirls by the jewellery counter. I looked through the racks importantly while those girls hung around me like bees. I shoved a few items into a girl’s hands, asking her to hold them for me and flung orders at her. The girl looked gobsmacked. I ignored. I was on a roll and no one could come in my way. I picked up more items to try and moved towards the trial rooms leaving her looking lost holding the accessories basket in her hand. It is always like this when I shop. Salesgirls just become my personal assistants for some time.

After I was convinced that I had left nothing untried, I made my way to the counter (and made another trip to the trial room because I saw something on the way). My smug expression was wiped off for a moment when the bill amount was displayed. What the hell is with inflation?! But well, I wanted it, I bought it.

I walked out of the mall a little shaken. I passed my neighbourhood boutique and bowed my head. Enough (for today).

I wonder what Daddy Dearest, who keeps a tab on my bank account activities, will say and when.

Is this how you shop too? How do you shop?

For The Love Of Summer

I wish I was in college and had loads of money. I wish I worked for Vogue. I wish I was in New York and had loads of money. I could wear these outfits regularly and not wait for special occasions to wear them. Even if I could easily put together any of these outfits, I would feel miserable if it gets wasted on the crowd / location / event.

Which one do you like the most?

Keep watching my outfit sets on Polyvore.

Moving On

So things took only little time to set up. My friends ask me – Oh, you’ve been fast. Everything set already? Oh ye, what did you think? I’d live in scarcity and misery??!!!

I have taken reins in my hands and settled in fast in the new house. After arranging for boring (and necessary) stuff like maid, dhobhi, car cleaner and food, I have started exploring the new city and meeting people. Friends? So soon, you may ask? Well, lets just call it my magic touch.

Meanwhile, Surat memories refuse to fade away. I miss all my friends there. They keep calling me and my heart still swells with pleasure while talking to them or even thinking of them.

Aditi

My little cousin has grown up now. We, inseparables, do crazy stuff whenever we are together. We forget the whole world when we are in each other’s company. She is no longer my little girl; she’s grown! She’s much, much taller than me! When she was little, she was the cutest girl around. Today, she’s grown into a pretty young lady and one of the best friends I have.

We went crazy with this little, random photo shoot we did when I went to her place during Diwali. Adi has beautiful features – a bright smile, a cute nose and eyes that dance every time she talks disclosing the liveliness that resides within her.

Adi’s Mom, my Aunt, herself is very artistic and creative and I know from where Adi gets her genes. Take a note of the beaded neck piece, wooden bangles and chappals. Mami has scoured up all of these from streets like Colaba Causeway and Bandra. My grandfather’s 25 year old Fiat acted as a perfect background!

Fusion dressing will never bore me. How much ever I love denim and stilettoes, wooden jewellery, indian block print and bandhini will always attract me. Indian kitsch (if that’s what indian fusion has turned into), old walls, vintage doors, abandoned old houses, creepers on old walls, chappals – will remain a part of my deep obsessions.

Sugarbabe

It’s fun doing girlie stuff sometimes – you know dressing up and stuff. I can’t believe I am doing this at the age of 28. But why not? I call myself a bored HR professional and I really need something exciting and fun going on to spice up my life. So, I have this really sweet friend named Krishna (and her Mom is a darling too) and we keep meeting up for photo shoots.

Sad that she is getting married and going away soon. Don’t get me wrong; I am realllly happy for her and all but I am going to miss her! I am going to miss her innocent questions and crazy tactics and loving nature.

Is the white and denim combination every going to go out of fashion? I am sure it won’t and I hope it doesn’t. I am CRAZY about denims and whites; been hoarding them ever since I can remember. Anyway, my favourite white outfit out of the many whites I have is this Valleygirl shirt I got from Australia last year. The fit is amazing – sexy and elegant and the texture feels like a baby’s skin!

Shorts are the most comfortable thing ever! I wonder why we aren’t allowed to wear them at work.

Village Belle

Now that I am back from my trip into the boring office routine, I am forever looking for opportunities to dress up and go out. And EAT, of course!! It is quite surprizing that eating out for 10 days in Europe / airplane / airport / various cafes hasn’t tired me out and I am still hungry for more.

Anyway, this time we choose to go to this place called The Village, which is quite near my place. The main reason I wanted to go there was because I missed attending Garba this year (yes, this year too) and Village has Garba! So I, along with my Gujju colleagues go there and have a blast of a time.

And, ok, there was another reason. I wanted to wear these brand new dhoti pants.

A Girl In Europe

I came back from a fantabulous trip to Europe 15 days back. Each day of the trip is engraved on my mind deeply. I had soooo much fun and made such great friends that it was difficult to come back to the normal routine.

The weather in Europe at this time is pleasant but gets cold at nights and early morning. So this is what I chose for the trip:
